Markets for People Itinerant debate series 2023-2024 - 1° stop: MODENA

DG Competition is inviting well-known personalities from different fields to debate the ultimate economic and social impact of competition and competition policy on people’s lives, asking them to bring to the fore the ‘social’ in the EU’s social market economy
The Markets for People itinerant debates series will come to five mid-sized cities in five different EU countries between April 2023 and early 2024. Locations, speakers and topics will be identified together with National Competition Authorities, the Commission’s Representations in EU countries and local Europe Direct centres.
The first debate in the Markets for People series is devoted to “How competition and its rules can serve the people”. The speakers include:
- Anna Argentati, Director of legal studies and legislation analysis at the Italian Competition Authority
- Pier Luigi Bersani, Italian politician and author
- Silvia Sciorilli Borrelli, journalist for the Financial Times
- Sara De Simoni, Vice-President Programme Manager at Tetra Pak
- Michele Polo, Professor at Bocconi University
Ubaldo Stecconi of the European Commission's department for competition moderates the debate.
The event takes place at the theatre of Fondazione San Carlo, Via S. Carlo 5, Modena, Italy on 20 April, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
