To open a bank account it is necessary to have a tax code, issued by the Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate), and a valid ID.

If you reside legally in an EU country you have the right to open a "basic payment account", which includes the standard operations that are used in everyday life, such as:

  • make a deposit;
  • withdraw cash;
  • receive or make payments (such as direct debit or card purchases).
