The Russian aggression of Ukraine launched on 24 February 2022 is forcing unprecedented numbers of people, mostly women and children, to flee their homes in search of shelter and safety in other European countries. The education authorities of the host countries are called upon to respond positively to a new and fast-moving reality, and to provide the necessary infrastructure, policies and measures to meet the Ukrainian refugee population’s educational needs.

The European Commission published a Recommendation on the recognition of academic and professional qualifications for people fleeing Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The European Commission has taken forward the implementation of this Recommendation through organising a Webinar “Online training for fast-track recognition of Ukrainian academic qualifications”, together with CIMEA, the Italian national recognition information centre, which addressed the different challenges authorities are facing.

Therefore, with the collaboration between the European Commission and the Italian national recognition information center CIMEA, Ukrainian academics, and students who were fleed their country can take their academic qualification recognition.
