it-ER Stories: Sara Pagliarani

From Emilia-Romagna to Australia, Sara lives on a small island where she takes care of Coalas

Sara was born in a small town in Emilia-Romagna, San Mauro Mare, and since she was a child she wrote in her secret diary that she wanted to become a veterinarian and have at least 10 dogs!

This dream soon became reality, in fact today Sara works as a veterinarian in Brisbane, Australia.

She attended the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Bologna, and during her last year she decided to leave for an experience abroad. She first went to Virginia, then to Minnesota, and immediately after graduating she spent three years on a small island in Florida to study wildlife. During these first experiences abroad she understood the path she wanted to take. As Sara said, the veterinarian profile in Italy is quite different from that abroad, especially from the working point of view, which is why a career outside Italy is also more rewarding. So, she decided to pursue a PhD that took her overseas.

Sara currently works as a veterinarian in Brisbane and takes care of coalas. In Australia, she has the opportunity to study and care for animals very different from those in Europe that she had never seen before. She is very satisfied about her amazing career, but remains very tied to her homeland and its traditions.
