it-ER stories: Shalemar Joy Abalos

From the Philippines to Bologna

Shalemar Joy Abalos, originally from the Philippines, lives in Emilia-Romagna where she studied. In 2020, she got the Bachelor’s degree  in Economics and Finance at  the University of Bologna. She is very happy about staying in this region because she found a welcoming place and friendly people.

What surprised her the most about living in Emilia-Romagna is the beauty of the region, since it is full of beautiful medieval and renaissance cities. For example Modena, which has many buildings of the 10th and 11th centuries and Ferrara as well, which became one of Italy's most fascinating cities during the 15th century. Moreover, the region also has a formidable food heritage such as parmigiano cheese, mortadella, Parma ham, vinegar, tortellini, lasagna and so on.

Shalemar strongly recommends coming to Emilia-Romagna because there are several places to be discovered and also for the high quality life in its cities. Her favorite place is Bologna, where she is currently living, because it has incredible architecture and of course delicious food.

Furthermore, she is also part of our it-ER Ambassadors, the network of international university students, PhDs, researchers and knowledge workers representing the Emilia-Romagna Innovation Ecosystem throughout the world!
