In the heart of the Emilia-Romagna you can find Modena, the second largest city in the region. It is a lively river city, on a human scale, combining history, art, music and gastronomy. The historical centre consists of an architectural complex that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Piazza Grande, the Duomo (Cathedral) and the Ghirlandina Tower, the symbol of the city. Not far from Bologna, it is well connected to the main Italian cities. Home to the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, founded in 1175, today it is a reference point for the automotive industry and headquarters of numerous industrial research laboratories.
